Australia is adding a new type of qualification called a Vocational Degree to its education system.
This will be part of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), which includes all official qualifications in Australia.
What is a Vocational Degree?
It’s a new course that teaches advanced and specialised skills, similar to a Bachelor’s degree. However, it focuses more on practical, hands-on learning instead of only theory.
How will it be taught?
The Vocational Degree will include different ways of learning, such as apprenticeships, which are great for students who like learning by doing.
Why is it being introduced?
The Australian Government’s 2023 White Paper (Jobs and Opportunities: Working Future) says Australia needs more skilled workers with higher qualifications to meet job market demands.
Who is creating these courses?
TAFE Centres of Excellence and the Jobs and Skills Councils (supported by the Australian Government) are working on designing these courses to match what industries need.
Why choose a Vocational Degree?
For international students, it offers a new way to gain useful skills for the workplace. It can also help improve your chances of getting a job in Australia or other countries.
