As of May 27, 2025, Migration Queensland has officially closed its 2024–25 State Nominated Migration Program (SNMP). Registrations of Interest (ROIs) are no longer being accepted for the onshore, graduate, offshore, and regional small business owner pathways. However, ROIs for second-stage business visas (subclass 888) remain open.
Migration Queensland will continue to assess all applications currently under review until all nominations are completed. Details regarding the 2025–26 migration program will be published once available.
In a broader context, the Australian Government plans to transition the Migration Program to a multi-year planning model starting from 2025–26. This approach aims to better align migration planning with long-term infrastructure, housing, and services planning across all levels of government.
Additionally, regional migration trends indicate significant shifts. For instance, Greater Geelong has recently surpassed Queensland’s Sunshine Coast as the top destination for internal migration in regional Australia, reflecting broader movements away from capital cities.
