ART application fees increasing from 1 July 2026

ART fee update

The Australian Government has announced an increase in Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) application fees, effective from 1 July 2026. These annual fee adjustments are made under the Administrative Review Tribunal Rules and Migration Regulations and are linked to changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

For visa applicants, migration practitioners, and individuals considering a review of a migration decision, understanding these fee changes is essential for planning and budgeting purposes.

ART Application Fees from 1 July 2026

The following updated fees will apply to applications where the application fee is paid on or after 1 July 2026:

Application Type New Fee
Standard Application Fee $1,195
Review of a Reviewable Migration Decision $3,727
Review of a Reviewable Protection Decision $2,293*
Concessional Application Fee (Eligible Applicants) $100

*The fee for a reviewable protection decision is generally only payable if the review application is unsuccessful.

Important: Timing of Payment Matters

One of the most significant aspects of this fee increase is that the new fees apply to any application fee paid on or after 1 July 2026, even if the review application itself was lodged before that date.

This means that applicants who intend to seek a review of a migration decision should carefully consider the timing of both their application and payment to avoid unexpected additional costs.

Why Are ART Fees Increasing?

The annual fee adjustments are part of a legislative framework designed to ensure government fees remain aligned with inflation and administrative costs. These increases are linked to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and are reviewed annually under the relevant regulations governing the Administrative Review Tribunal.

While fee increases may appear modest in some categories, they can have a significant impact on applicants already managing substantial migration-related expenses.

What Does This Mean for Migration Applicants?

For many applicants, ART reviews are a critical avenue for challenging migration decisions. The increased fees may affect budgeting and decision-making, particularly for individuals and families already facing financial pressures.

Applicants should:

  • Review their options as early as possible.
  • Seek professional migration advice before lodging a review application.
  • Consider the timing of payment carefully.
  • Ensure all required documentation is prepared in advance to avoid delays.
